Handy hints on choosing the ideal size

Because of the design, adjustments and engineering of The Coat, each size has the capability of fitting a number of different sized sighthounds.

If you're often asked if your whippet is a greyhound, you're probably best in a size medium. If your greyhound is mistaken for a whippet, you're probably in a medium too.

An overhang in coat length is ideal for inclement weather coverage. The Coat has darts cut into the thigh area, so in most cases an overhang will curl nicely around their bottom.

After 12 months in design and development, our Hunnyboots coat is in production and we're so excited to show it off, modelled by two of our favourite local boys, Duke the black and Odie the brindle with a rare appearance by Hunny!

Odie, Duke and Hunny are all wearing the same size coat - a large - thanks to some innovative technical engineering. Remarkable since Odie is a solid 40kg, Duke a tall and slim 34kg and Hunny a dainty 30kg.

Squatting for the girls (and some boys) is enabled as both back legs are seperate and clip on to the coat on the outsides only. Pooping has been fully considered! The lining is super-soft with no exposed seams for our delicate-skinned creatures.

Like all our footwear, this coat is tailor-made just to fit greyhounds with their long skinny legs, deep chests, impossibly thin waists, massive shoulders and bulging thighs.

The coat features three adjustable zip positions. It is this unique feature that allows the same size coat to fit our three models with a 10kg weight and 10cm height difference. The coat is put on by stepping into the front legs, clipping together the belly strap and zipping up on the most snug setting, making fitting simple - no wrestling involved!

The fur lined collar can be worn up, down or folded half-way. The back legs are detachable, making them very easy to put on and can be moved forwards or backwards on the five press studs, depending on your greyhound's back length, or not worn at all on warmer days.

Perhaps the best part is the waterproof coat with a reflective safety flash on the side has a three-point fully stitched and padded harness built in, with a belly strap so Mr or Miss Houdini can't wriggle out of it! If the harness were visible on the outside, it would look like this.

The adjustable belly strap secures the harness to the correct position between the rib cage and belly so it can’t slip forward.

What's in the set?

The coat, two detachable back legs, a built in adjustable harness and a 2.5 metre lead with a padded handle, packed into a handy storage bag.

How to adjust and fit The Coat

The Outer shell is made from waterproof Taslan 228T nylon 120gsm fabric with a breathable PU Printed Membrane, chosen for its weather beating and wind cutting properties.

The Lining is Taffeta-210T, a high-quality polyester fabric. It is a light, very soft and durable material that dries quickly and resists creasing. This versatile fabric is widely used as a breathable lining for winter clothes and active sports gear.

The Insulation is 160gsm 100% polyester filling, not too thick and not too thin. A perfect weight for cold Australian days and perfect for some active snow frolicking in Northern Winters.

The faux fur Collar is a knitted, synthetic fabric that is made from a blend of acrylic and polyester fibres.

The Coat is designed to be used every day and as such will occasionally need cleaning. You can spot clean the outer shell and lining as needed with a damp sponge and mild detergent. If you need to perform a more thorough clean on The Coat, please follow this Do and Don't guide.

DO

  • Do machine wash at 40˚c on a gentle cycle on its own, as the collar faux fur may shed some fibres.

  • Do hang it up to dry in a warm place.

  • Do (If absolutely necessary) warm iron the nylon outer shell on the lowest heat setting possible using a pressing cloth.

DON'T

  • Don't use any type of fabric softener or bleach.

  • Don't dry clean.

  • Don't tumble dry.

  • Don't use steam when ironing the outer shell.

  • Don't iron directly on the outer shell.

All fabrics used in The Coat are pet friendly and can be cleaned as such. The faux fur collar is a knitted, synthetic fabric and can also be machine washed at no more than 40˚c. It may need a little more attention once fully dry, a light brushing with bring back it's softness.
