Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions hound owners ask us most. Can't find yours? We're real people. Just ask.

01

Fit and wear

Our boy has a deformed foot. Will a Hunnyboot fit him and stay on?

This is something we can help with. We've worked through a number of similar requests and look at each one case by case. Contact us with photos of the foot and we'll talk it through.

Can I buy one boot? Why do I have to buy two?

Hunnyboots are sold in pairs, because most hounds need boots for everyday walks: city streets, gravel, glass, or easing sore corns. Selling pairs also lets you choose a different size front and back if your hound needs it.

If your hound has a long-term issue on one foot only and you really need a single boot, a therapeutic brand such as Therapaw may suit you better.

How do they hold up in snow and cold conditions?

Think of our Summer boots like a pair of trainers. They'll get wet, drain and dry out, and they grip well on icy paths and in snow.

In freezing conditions they will absorb water and get cold, and so will your hound's feet. For cold, wet weather, our Splish-Splash Winter boots are the better choice.

Can my greyhound or whippet run in Hunnyboots?

No. Hunnyboots are made for walking.

Sighthounds use their claws for grip, balance and braking, and no boot can give them that same feel underfoot, so off-lead play in boots raises the risk of slips and twists. Keep them on the lead in Hunnyboots, and always supervise.

We're developing a boot for off-lead sighthound activity, and we'll share it when it's ready.

My greyhound's boots are a bit on the nose and grubby. Can I wash them?

Yes, gently. Rinse them in cold water and give them a light scrub with a very soft brush and a little face soap or mild dishwashing liquid. Human foot deodorisers are generally fine.

Some boys wee on their front feet, which can mean seriously smelly boots, and P-Off works well for that.

Please don't use laundry detergent or put the boots in the washing machine. Even gentle detergents can break down the glue that holds the soles on, and we can't cover boots damaged by washing under warranty.

My dog's boots come flying off after one or two steps. What am I doing wrong?

The only thing holding any boot on a dog is the strap around the wrist. If it's loose, the boot will come off, guaranteed.

Follow our fitting guide and your Hunnyboots will stay on until you take them off.

Will the boot irritate or rub my greyhound's dew claw?

Hunnyboots are designed around greyhound anatomy, especially sensitive dew claws. The strap sits above the wrist and below the dew claw, so it doesn't touch it. The slightly wider upper may sit over the dew claw but won't press on it.

Hunny herself had very sensitive dew claws and bled in other boots, so we designed around that. If a strap is ever causing trouble, contact us and we can move it for you. More in Dew claws and fitting.

How long can I leave boots on my dog?

Hunnyboots are for walks and active time. Take them off when your hound heads to bed or flops onto the couch, as a dog's foot shape changes when they lie down and boots can twist.

Slippers can stay on longer around the house, but give their feet a breather every couple of hours.

Take Winter boots off once you're back inside, as paws get warm and sweaty, and dogs cool themselves partly through their paw pads. Boots aren't designed to be worn unsupervised.

Are the boots left and right?

No. There isn't enough difference between a greyhound's left and right paws, front or back, to need separate boots. What can vary is size, front to back, which is another reason we sell in pairs.

Over time, Summer boots can mould to each foot, so you may want to mark them somewhere discreet. The L stamped on the sole means Large, not Left, and the ® on the inserts isn't "Right". Slippers are mitten style and fit either foot.

Shipping, duty and taxes

Where do you ship to?

We ship from our Melbourne warehouse everywhere Australia Post and DHL Express deliver. Shipping is free in Australia on orders over $150, and free worldwide on orders over AUD $300.

In the US? Shop Hunnyboots USA, shipped from California with no import duty to pay.

How long will my order take?

We pack and ship within 3 working days of your order. Public holidays may add a day or two. Delivery time then depends on the carrier and your location. More on our Shipping page.

Do I have to pay import duty or tax on my order?

In Australia, GST is included in our prices.

For orders outside Australia, we don't collect import duty or tax. Each country sets its own thresholds, duties and taxes, and your local carrier will contact you to collect anything due.

I'm in the UK. Do your boots include VAT, duty and tax?

No. We don't collect UK VAT, duty or import tax. If any are due, the carrier delivering your parcel will contact you to collect them.

If I exchange from the UK, do I have to pay duty twice?

Technically yes, on the replacement order. But if you keep your first order documents, your return request, your second order and the courier air waybill, you can apply to HMRC for a refund of the duty on your first order.

I'm in the EU. Can I cancel my order?

Yes. Under EU consumer law you can withdraw from your purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. Log in to your account to manage your order, or use our cancellation form.

Returns and warranty

Do you offer exchanges?

We don't do direct exchanges as standard. The quickest option is to return unused items in their original condition for store credit, then order the size or style you need. If you're hoping to swap for something specific, leave a note in your return request and we'll do our best.

This applies to change of mind and sizing, and doesn't affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

I bought the wrong size. Can I exchange?

Return the boots for store credit, as long as they're unused and in their original condition. Please do your fitting and testing indoors, as we can't accept boots that have been worn outside.

Once we receive and approve your return, we credit the purchase price and any tax you paid to your Hunnyboots account, but not the original shipping. You can then order the right size straight away. How store credit works.

How do I return or exchange something?

We make returns and exchanges easy through your Hunnyboots account. Log in using the same email you used at checkout (or your Shop credentials), select the order, and click "Request return". Follow the prompts and we'll guide you from there.

Use your preferred carrier with tracking. Return postage and lost parcels are the customer's responsibility.

Please make sure your item meets the return guidelines: boots only tried on indoors on a clean surface; coats clean and free of hair or marks; socks still sealed and unworn.

We usually respond within two working days with return instructions. Once your parcel arrives and passes inspection, we'll issue your exchange, store credit or refund, whichever is appropriate. For full details, see our Returns and refunds page.

Returning from the UK? Duty may be charged again on a replacement order. Keep your first order paperwork, your return form, your second order and the courier airway bill, and you can claim the duty back from HMRC.

I've changed my mind. Can I return my order and get a refund?

We're a small family business and we try to be fair. We're not required to accept change of mind returns, but we know life happens, so get in touch and have a chat with us. If the item is unused and in its original condition, we'll always do our best to help.

How long is my warranty?

Our boots come with a voluntary warranty covering manufacturing faults: 90 days for Summer and Winter boots, and 30 days for Slippers.

This is in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law, which guarantees products are of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and durable. If something fails outside these periods, we'll still look at it fairly. Customers outside Australia may also have rights under their local consumer laws.
